Q: What forms of payment are accepted at Island Roots?
Depends on the vendor! All vendors accept cash, some use Square so they are able to take card payments. If you don’t have enough cash on you, find the Island Roots table and purchase Market Money with your Debit or Credit card.
Q: What is Market Money and how does it work?
Market Money is our form of payment used only at Island Roots Market. You can purchase any amount in increments of $5. Every vendor accepts Market Money and will provide change (in actual cash) if necessary. Market Money never expires so it can be used anytime at Island Roots regardless of when it was purchased. Please note: When purchasing Market Money there is a $1.00 processing fee to cover the cost of the charges from Square.
Q: Can Market Money be used at other BC Farmers Markets?
Market Money is specific to Island Roots Market. Only vendors at Island Roots Market are able to accept and receive compensation for Market Money.
Q: How do vendors receive compensation for Market Money?
On collection days, vendors hand in the Market Money they have received to the Market Manager in order to receive an e-transfer of the corresponding amount.
Q: Are there bathrooms available?
Yes! During the Winter market, there are washrooms available inside the Centennial Building. During the Summer market, there are washrooms available for use inside Frank Crane Arena.
Q: Are pets allowed?
As much as we love pets here at Island Roots we do have to respect the spaces we are using. During the Summer market, pets are allowed as long as they are on a fixed leash. Owners must pay close attention to their pets and always pick up after them. Please remember that not every person or every animal likes or is comfortable around all animals. During the winter market, as we are inside, unfortunately we ask for you to leave pets at home. Service and Emotional Support animals are always welcome.
Q: How do I become a vendor?
In order to become a vendor you must fill out an application and receive approval from the Market Manager. Visit the vendor application page by clicking here.
Q: Is Island Roots Market wheelchair accessible?
There are accessible parking spots in the parking lot of both the Centennial Building and Frank Crane Arena. As well, both buildings have accessible stalls in their bathrooms. The entrance to the Centennial Building is flat however the building is surrounded by gravel and the parking lot is at a slight angle. The outdoor market may be more challenging to navigate as the field can be uneven.
Q: How do I know which vendors will attend each week?
Our Market Manager sends out a weekly newsletter which includes a list of all vendors, market news, and community events related to farming and food security. Scroll down to sign up with your email to receive the newsletter. Additionally, the vendor list is shared to Instagram (@islandrootsmarket) and Facebook (Island Roots Farmers’ Market). Please note: We do our best to keep our customers up to date about who will be in attendance but we do sometimes have last minute vendor changes and cancellations!
